How many times should you give up on something that you desperately want but can’t seem to get? Well, that depends on who you ask. In this story from 2019, one determined mother in Kenilworth, England, decided the answer was never. Despite suffering 13 heartbreaking miscarriages, Laura Worsley was set on her dream of a child. Thanks to medical help, she was finally able to see her dream come true.
Laura Worsley really wanted a baby. She and her husband tried and tried again and had devastating losses of 13 miscarriages. Two of the pregnancies lasted for 17 weeks and 20 weeks, respectively. However, the little boys did not survive. One can imagine the emotional turmoil that these losses would bring, but Laura was not willing to give up.
Then, a professor—Professor Siobhan Quimby—stepped in to try and see why Laura was losing her children. After running tests on her, the health issues that prevented her from carrying full-term surfaced. She not only had Sticky Blood Syndrome, but also Leo’s Placenta, a condition which causes some of the placenta to die. Women around the world who suffered from Sticky Blood Syndrome also lost children.
After addressing these medical conditions and getting help for Laura, it happened. The miracle that she had wanted all these years showed up on her pregnancy tests. She was expecting. This pregnancy would be different because doctors were aware of her conditions and treated them accordingly. Nine months later, Laura gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who now is the center of her parents’ world.
Despite all the odds, Laura never gave up on her dream of motherhood. She just kept trying. With her faith in tow and a supportive husband constantly at her side, she held on to hope. And, it paid off. Though her path to motherhood was difficult and arduous, she says it was all worth it. She told the BBC:
“I look at her and think ‘miracles do happen.’ I’d read about other people’s miracles, and now I’ve got mine.”
Understandably, some women would have long since given up or sought other means, like adoption, to bring children into the family. But Laura is a fighter as is her baby. At birth, the baby was very tiny and appeared to have some health issues, as she had tubes in different places on her little body. But, the latest picture of the baby shows the little girl looking strong, happy, and healthy.
Laura’s story is a great example of fortitude and staying in the fight until you get what you want. Looking back, she wasn’t sure how she’d gotten through all of the stresses, but she knows that she is very blessed. How do you feel about what Laura did? Do you think that she should have adopted instead of losing so many children before birth? Be sure to tell your friends and give us your opinions! We would love to hear what you think.
